Christopher Kane

Designer of the week is Christopher Kane. Kane has always had an interest in fashion. While in college, he worked for Russell Sage and Giles Deacon. When Kane won the Lancome Colour Award, he quickly gained attention from Donatella Versace. For his MA Graduate collection, Kane also won the Harrods Design Award. This amazing collection consists of decorative lace dresses with brass rings that was icing on the cake for Versace. Versace immediately hired Kane to work on the Atelier couture collection. It was in 2006 when Kane joined with his sister, Tammy, in creating his first label. With quick production, he first independent show was presented in fall. This collection consists of neon colors because Kane wanted his first collection to be as bright as possible which landed him the Young Designer of the Year award.
Each collection continues to receive good reviews. At one point, Kane moved away from his signature collection showcasing velvet's and leather in a more relaxed silhouette. Kane has had some misfortune days before the scheduled show in 2007 for his third collection. Someone actually stole 23 pieces from his London studio, in addition to cashmere and leather pieces and a laptop. This is really disappointing when a hard working upcoming designer works on what is his dream for someone who is less fortunate to come in and take it. Stealing is never ok but in the end Kane still ended on top showing a collection on time. Over the years, Kane has had the luxury to collaborate with many designers and continues to win awards for his inspiring pieces. You just never know what you are going to get in each collection. In 2013, Kane partnered with Kering which will help him open his first boutique.
