Anna Sui

Designer of the week is the one and only Anna Sui. Graduated from Parsons The New School of Design, Sui gained hand on experience in making designs for sportswear brands and styling models. With some hard work and dedication, Sui soon became New York fashion designer that is best known for creating contemporary original clothing that's inspired by vintage styles and cultural references. Built from the ground up, Sui was first inspired by tear sheets in overstuffed files which to this day she still reference them. Sui had a dream of becoming a designer and she made it happen. She buckled down, created important relationships in the world of fashion, photography, art, music and design.
She got involved and didn't hesitate when it came to thinking outside the box. Sui was part of a generation of fashion designers who remade American style in the 1990's. Working along side Marc Jacobs, Isaac Mizrahi, Todd Oldham, and Vivienne Tam, she elevated corporate suits and big shoulder pads for a more relaxed silhouette that reflects the values of youth culture. Since her first show in 1991, Sui has remained at the the top of the fashion industry. This was by far a breakthrough moment for Sui. Top 5 Fashion Icons of the Decade. "Clothes have to be fun; otherwise, who wants to bother?" Anna Sui once said in Vogue. With each show, she aims to take her audience on a journey. A fantasy. We all love a good show and that's something you are guaranteed to get from Sui. When you get a chance to wear one of her pieces, you see why she remains at the top of the fashion industry.
