Designer of the week is the Spain designer, Manuel Blahnik Rodriguez. He is best know for the creation of Manolo Blahnik. A high end shoe brand that actually started because of his mother which was his inspiration. Blahniks mother was always disappointed of the shoes from their hometown, so she would make her own. Blahnik was home-schooled at a young age and you would find him watching his mother as she would make beautiful shoes. When growing up, he attended boarding school and then the University of Geneva. Blahnik's parents wanting him to major in Politics but he changed his major to literature. What got Blahnik started was when he moved to Paris to continue his schooling with Louvre Art School. He got a job at a vintage clothing shop but then moved to London to work as a fashion buyer for "Zapata". Blahnik also had the pleasure for writing for L'Uomo Vogue which is a mens Italian version of Vogue as well as getting a chance to meet Diana Vreeland. Vreeland sat him down after he showed her his designs, she told him to stick with shoes. She admired his shoe sketches so Blahnik took her advice which ended up opening doors for him. Everyone thinks the fashion world is huge but it actually isn't. Everyone talks and if you have something to give, your name will travel among the best. Blahnik has designed for many designers before opening his own boutique and selling through Bloomingdales in America. Manolo Blahnik is nationwide!
