Frida Giannini

Designer of the week is the amazing Frida Giannini. In 1997, Giannini worked for Fendi where she created their ready-to-wear collections. She soon got promoted to designer of leather goods. It was 2002, however, when she joined Gucci as design director of handbags. After Tom Ford departed from the company, Giannini took over as the head of women's accessories. This Italian fashion designer became the Creative Director for Gucci from 2006 through 2014.
Giannini attempted to change Gucci's style from Tom Ford's designs by digging into Gucci's heritage. Grabbing from the past and bring it to the future. We have seen Versace do something similar to this in which they have succeeded. This is a great idea seeing how fashion is always repeating itself. Although, Early this year, Giannini was announced that she would be leaving the company. She ended up leaving a month earlier then what was expected. Sales did show a shift when she took over compared to when Tom Ford was with the brand. Compared to Tom Ford, Giannini had a fresh, feminine take on contemporary fashion. Nothing yet on what Giannini will do next!
