Alexander Wang

Designer of the week is Alexander Wang. This American designer knew exactly what he wanted to do in life. At the age of 19, he moved to New York to attend Parsons. Feeling confident, he decided to launch his first fashion label after being in College for two years. In 2007, he featured his ready-to-wear collection on the New York catwalk. He won CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2008 and a $20,000 award to expand his business. Since then, he has created and launched a handbag collection, Womens T and Men's T. Wang is known for his urban designs as well as using black as his dominate color. Wang has excellent tailoring skills as well as the eye to spot what works when creating his looks. You can find his collections in department stores, Goodman, Net-a-Porter, Barneys New York, Bergdorf and more. After many awards and being recognized for his talents, Wang was named Creative Director at Balenciaga after Nicolas Ghesquiere departed from the French fashion house. In 2014, he partnered with H&M and created a collection for the retailer.
The great thing about learning about the designers is that you get to see how they started. How long it took them and where did they go. After many designer pieces done, you can see that a majority of the designers went to Parsons in New York. If you would like to follow in their foot steps because this is something that you want to get into, then you know Parsons is a great school to start at.
