Giambattista Valli

Designer of the week is Giambattista Valli. The Italian designer is known for his Haute couture and ready-to-wear collections. Inspired by his birth place, Yves Saint Laurent french fashion through watercolors, as well as the drawings of Gruau, Giambattista enrolled in Istituto Europeo del design of Rome to pursue his dream. Working in the studio of Roberto Capucci, he was introduced to dramatic Haute couture clothes. Within two years, he went from Capucci to the Fendi family where he got to experiment with pret-a-porter. His imagination continued to grow and his influences continues to fill his mind with new ideas. When he moved to Milan in the 1995, he as appointed as the Senior Designer for Krizia womenswear by Krizia-Mariuccia Mandelli.
By 1997, he moved to Paris to make his dreams come a reality. With the combination of prep-a-porter and Haute couture, Giambattista's journey lead him to Emanuel Ungaro. Being head of the design studio with Ungaro, in 2001, he was appointed Creative Director for the prep-a-porter, the Ungaro Fever line, the accessories and licenses. Ready to make his first step, Giambattista created his own collection which was featured in his first solo show in Paris in 2005. Thus, the brand name Giambattista Valli was born. His collections are known for loose and ample tailored coats with draped panels that go away from the body. Suits that are lean and long to the knees, widening at the ankles. Six years later was his first Haute Couture collection. With the rise of his boutique store, the brand has more than 245 selling points in 41 countries worldwide.
