Designer of the week is the mysterious Ann Demeulemeester. Demeulemeester wasn't interested in fashion when growing up and going to school. What finally got her interested in fashion was people and portraiture. Which then lead her to thinking about clothes and then deciding to go to Royal Academy of Fine Arts. After graduation, her success happened almost immediately. She won the Gouden Spoel for being the most promising fashion designer and worked as a freelance designer for a few years in which she produced her first line that was shown in Parisian art gallery in 1992. Demeulemeester became known for her cutting-edge techniques, attention to details, creating emotional pieces, hint of sex and the materials used. After releasing her menswear in 1996, she continued to create pieces that are distinctive and instantly recognizable. Her inspirations came from the goth style, punk style as well as the Japanese style while still staying true to herself. Even though she was pursued by many fashion designers, she stayed with her brand.
