Designer of the week is Michael Bastian. American fashion designer who graduated from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts where later he moved to New York City. There he got his first job as an assistant buyer at Abraham & Strauss. Bastian has had the pleasure of working with Tiffany & Co., Polo Ralph Lauren, Sotheby's, and Bergdorf Goodman. At Bergdorf Goodman, Bastian was the men's fashion director for five years. This experience lead to him launching his own menswear line by 2006. It was produced under a licensing agreement by Brunelle Cucinelli. The agreement was terminated at the end of 2010 after the collaboration with GANT. From 2008-2013, Bastian has been nominated for the CFDA award. With 2011 and 2012 being the two wears that he won the awards.
By 2020, Bastian was introduced as the creative director of American label Brooks Brothers. Being with the company Brooks Brothers was a goal of Bastian. The Brook Brothers weren't just adequate, they produced really good clothing that Bastian has admitted wearing for pretty much his entire life. Bastian understood what made Brook Brothers and at the time, the company needed a change. After a year of taking over the company, the company starting to see an increase in it's customers and revenue. Bastian hopes to bring back all the favorite things the Brook Brothers loyal customers have hung on for. Keeping with the classics and having perfect basics in a way that allow you to really play around with your own personal style. It's hard to play around with clothes that are overly branded, specific and or fashiony. More neutral to let your style shine through became the ultimate goal. Bastian definitely accomplished in what he set out to do for the company. This has only bettered the company in the long run.
