Designer of the week is Scott Sternberg. Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. Sternberg actually began his career in the film business before starting his career in fashion. He worked as a assistant in the motion picture talent department at Creative Artists Agency where he eventually became an agent. It wasn't till he worked along side Emily Scott on a new consulting and media venture that sparked his interest in fashion. This was the beginning of his brand called Band of Outsiders by 2003. The brand was best known for being recontextualize vintage inspired.
Over the course of 11 years, Sternberg has collaborated with many brands such as Starbucks, Lego and Target. It was a shock when he decided to leave the brand. Sternberg had been featured in every fashion magazine and won the industry's top awards. "Still, fashion can feel like jail" said Sternberg. What Sternberg has noticed is that there is a real disconnect between his values and the goals of the investors. The conflict he felt between what the investors wanted to what he wanted created the struggle that eventually caused him to leave fashion. Despite the growth of the brand during the pandemic, this didn't change his decision. However, fashion wasn't the other thing Sternberg was good at. He is a entrepreneur by birth and photographer.
