Designer of the week is Barbara Tfank. Graduate of Skidmore College and gained her masters degree from Stanford University. Tfank discovered her love for textiles and tailoring as a design assistant in New York City under designer Sal Cesarani. Tfank launched her label in 2001 featuring beautiful brocade cocktail coats and classically shaped dresses. Already a notable force in the fashion industry, most of her eponymous collections show flattering silhouettes with luxuriant fabrics, fine hand tailored craftsmanship, sophistication, colorful pieces, and creativity. Full of imagination, seeing her pieces on the runway can almost take your breath away. Her love for flowers continue to inspired her collections but her skills no doubt are unmatchable. Tfank has worked with many A-listers and built many relationships with her fellow fashion designers. She has become the go too designer for many. On top of building her brand, she has also branched off into costume designs.
One popular film that many may know is Dream Lover in which she collaborated with Prada in creating innovative blend of fashion and film. This gained her a position with Prada in which they designed the famous lavender Prada gown that was worn by Uma Thurman at the 67th Academy Awards. By Spring 2010, First Lady Michelle Obama wore Tfank floral jacquard pleated dress at the White House to launch the Wounded Warrior Soldier Ride. This would not be the only dress that Michelle Obama turned to that was made by Tfank. Why Tfank stands out from everyone else is the fact that her pieces are cut individually and sewn by customer trained seamstresses. Her customers enjoy the consistent fit, while also falling in love with the luxurious textiles used. Her taste and meticulous attention to detail has given each piece that artistic appeal.
