Designer of the week is Narciso Rodriguez. Born in New Jersey, Rodriguez grew up and went to Parsons School of Design. Did some freelance work afterwards till he eventually became the Design Director for Anne Klein to Calvin Klein. Best known for his sportswear inflected aesthetic and the clarity of his lines. Another great designer who got the opportunity to dress Michelle Obama when she was celebrating her husbands win in 2008. Around 1995, Rodriguez became the director of TSE where he officially showed his first ready to wear collections for men and women. What actually put Rodriguez on the fashion radar is when he created a gown for Carolyn Bessette that she wore to marry John F. Kennedy Jr in 1996.
1997 was the year his label came alive. Drawing inspiration from art, his fashion lines carries a mix of playful colors, elegance and graceful patterns. Through the years, Rodriguez continues to prove him self and have received awards because of it. In 2008, Rizzoli published a book that focused on Rodriguez and his design process. Definitely worth checking out. Rodriguez so far has been the only designer able to create a simple collection that still looks absolutely stunning therefore, Rodriguez was awarded best new designer by the CFDA. His work has been featured in several museum exhibits. With all the colaborations with artists, actors and fellow designers. The fashion industry looks forward to seeing what Rodriguez will do next in his upcoming creations.
