Junya Watanabe

Designer of the week is Junya Watanabe. This talented Japanese fashion designer knew fashion was the path he wanted to go growing up. After graduating from Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, he began his apprenticeship at Comme des Garcons as a patternmaker. By 1987, Watanabe's talents and hard work got noticed.
Getting promoted to Chief designer of Tricot knitwear line to finally the Homme line follow by Junya Watanabe Comme Des Garcons in 1993. This line was featured in Paris that same year. Best known for his innovative and distinctive clothing, Watanabe has gained the title techno couture designer. With all the buzz, even Michelle Obama reached out for his signature blue pattern cardigan for her trip to London.
When you watch his runway shows, you can see how he experiments with cutting edge fabrics and inventive tailoring along with draping. After every show, the critics rave on how technical and different the garments are. Telling a story and leaving you always wanting to see more. Something that we all can relate too is when our mentors and or the people that we look up too don't notice our hard work and or don't praise us for going that extra mile.
Be sure to check out his fashion shows!
