Designer of the week is Maxime Simoens. This French designer actually started going for filmmaking before trying to go towards fashion. Filmmaking seemed too technical for him and that's what caused the changed. He was at a Madonna concert when it hit him. After receiving his degree, he continued on to the School of Conde de Lyon and finally to Paris Union Chamber of Couture. Coming first in many contests, it was no surprise that he would graduate top of his class in 2006. Nothing was going to stop Simoens from achieving his goals. It wasn't soon after graduation that he started creating his own house.
Striving to create his world free of influence. It's actually amazing to see this designer at work. What inspires him and triggers him to start creating. Making his mark on the world. In 2009, he showed his first ten piece collection known for its innovative vision, architectural inspired as well as graphic design flair taste to the overall collection. To today, Simoens silhouettes are combined with structure and fluidity. I find myself getting lost in his collections because of how much is put into them. You focus on every detailed work, following the story and wanting the story to continue. Simoens is a very inspirational designer.
He's made me want to rethink about my own line. With so many great designers in the world, keep in mind, you want to create uniqueness so that you can stand out from others. Becoming the creative director of French fashion houses Leonard's ready-to-wear in 2011, I'm not surprised at what has been walking down the runways. Inspired by art, music and movies, Simoens collections are full of strong visuals that leaves to be desired. Check them out!
