Rachel Roy

Designer of the week is Rachel Roy. After attending college, Roy moved to New York City where she worked as a wardrobe stylist for music videos and magazines. Later she did an apprenticeship at the fashion label Rocawear. It was Rocawear that she was able to grow and get promoted to creative director of the women's and children's division. From 2006 to 2009, Roy started to receive awards for her spin on fashion. This was also the time that the Rachel Roy brand was formed. Roy was also best known for her "how to"  segments where she would transform T-shirts into edgy prom dresses. This quickly was noticed from the teen market and making it into the Teen Vogue magazine.
When 2009 hit, Roy created the name RACHEL Rachel Roy which at the time could only be found at Macy's. These contemporary looks have made it easy for her customers to mix and match. Spice it up a little or just have an overall strong sexy look. Roy prefers dressing up with a classic approach infused with twists and creativity. You may see Kate Hudson, Lucy Liu, Tyra Banks as well as many other celebrities wearing her pieces. Roy was going through some tough situations that did put a strain on her duties as a designer but she still finds a way to keep the fashion going with the help of many. Remaining sophisticated with a hint of elegance, Roy continues to redefine personal style.
Fun fact: If you have been watching Project Runway. You probably have seen her be a guest judge on the show multiple times.
