Hedi Slimane

Designer of the week is the one and only Hedi Slimane. Not only known for his fashion, he is well know for his photography. His love for photography was discovered at the age of 11 when he received his first camera and started learning black and white darkroom painting. Fashion wasn't even a gleam in his eye. At the age of 16, he studied Art History at Ecole du Louvre and later completed an apprenticeship at a men's designer house. Many would say this is when he became interested in fashion. Between the years of 1992 and 1995, he got a chance to assist the fashion consultant Jean-Jacques Picart on the project "monogram canvas" for Louis Vuitton. It wasn't till after the project, Hedi landed a position of ready-to-wear director of men's collections at Yves Saint Laurent with the help from Pierre Berge and later offered the position of creative director by YSL. Even though YSL offered him this position, Hedi took the offer at Christian Dior as their creative director. It was his way of expanding his artistic skills.
From the years of 2000-2007, he held the position as creative director for the menswear of Christian Dior called Dior Homme. He did bounce around between houses. Just recently he was creative director for Yves Saint Laurent again till March 2016. He never thought 2018 would be his year till he was announced in the annual list of Vanity Fair's "50 most influential French people in the world".
If you are a David Bowie fan, you may have seen some of Hedi's work. He also created Brad Pitts wedding suit to Jennifer Aniston. Even though he hasn't created a women's collection around this time, he has dressed Nicole Kidman and Madonna. Not to mention, he created his own soundtracks for the runway. Hedi is known for thinking of everything and adding a little of himself in everything. You will not be disappointed in his shows.
