Designer of the week is John Galliano. This British designer is the head designer of the French company Givenchy, Christian Dior as well as his own label. Galliano was with Givenchy for one year, five years with Christian Dior, 23 years under his own label while also being the creative director of the fashion house Maison Margiela. Growing up under a strict Roman Catholic family, Galliano finally attended Saint Martin's School of Art where he graduated first class honors degree in Fashion Design. His first collection, also known as the French Revolution, received positive reviews and sold in the London fashion boutique Browns. Due to his success, Galliano would take London's nightlife to the extreme. He had financial help from Johan Brun till the agreement ended. Bankrupt, Galliano hoped his label would reignite his fortune. Thus, forcing him to move to Paris for a more stronger client base. With financial help from designer Faycal Amor, Galliano settled and had his first show at Paris Fashion Week in 1989. The agreement with Amor ended in 1993, making it where Galliano missed a showing. With now the support of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, Galliano is now back on track. It pays to know people and to network. However, this also shows that even if you become successful, you should still try to think smart. If you don't keep track and just spend it, before you know it, your money will be gone.
