Kris Van Assche

Designer of the week is Kris Van Assche. After graduating from Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts, he immediately moved to Paris where he was appointed Yves Saint Laurent as Hedi Slimane's first assistant. The collaboration continued to Christian Dior, creating a very successful Dior Homme collection up until September 2004. It wasn't till 2005, Kris decided to create his own men's collection that was presented during Men's Fashion Week in Paris. Soon after, he is the head of his own label while still being the director for Dior Homme. KRISVANASSCHE first boutique opened in Paris in 2013 and since then, the label has been judged by the critics. Most say the collections are outdated and irrelevant. The label had closed for the time being.
In my opinion, no one knows how customers and or critics are going to react to your ideas. Your collection could be so amazing or it can be a drop on the floor. You try to open a store and it may go well or like your collection, it may not go well. From what I have learned, do your research on the field that you want to go into and if you open a store, make sure it's in a populated spot that can be seen. None of this is easy and it takes a lot of work to make a label, to make a company.
