Francisco Costa

Designer of the week is Francisco Costa. This Brazilian designer is known for being the Creative Director of Calvin Klein. At a young age, Costa was inspired by his mother who owned a children's wear factory. He would put on fashion shows for charities. After the death of his mother, he moved to New York with on of his friends at the age of 21. He enrolled in language class at Hunter College and then enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Technology. Costa gained employment with Herbert Rounick, Seventh Avenue, who created dresses for Oscar de la Renta and Bill Blass. After Rounick's death, Costa moved on to working for de la Renta. During his five year stay with the company, de la Renta has taught him more about designing clothes and life. It wasn't till 2001 that he didn't get noticed by Klein with the help of Barry Schwartz. Costa officially joined the Klein team after getting a taste for Gucci working under Tom Ford as his assistant. Costa is known for creating dresses that are revealing. Preferably sensuality in sexual imagery. Costa can grab anything and literally turn it into a piece for his collections. Full of inspiration, he leaves you wanting to see more.
