Michael Kors

Designer of the week is the spunky Michael Kors. Known for his womens sportswear and being a judge on the hit tv show Project Runway. Since a young age, Kors had an interest in fashion. His mother thought that his interest in fashion came from being exposed to the apparel industry through her modeling career. At the age of five, believe it or not, he actually designed his mothers wedding dress for her second marriage. Kors enrolled himself at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. However, after nine months, he dropped out for a job at Bergdorf Goodman boutique. This actually was the start of his career getting to sell his designs. The fashion director of Bergdorf discovered Kors talents and asked if he would show his collection to Bergdorf Goodman's buyers. In 1981, Michael Kors was launched in multiple stores featuring womenswear.

Having a scare of bankruptcy in 1993, he was able to regain and reinvent himself in 1997 which he launched a lower priced line. A menswear was launched in 2002. Michael Kors is by far the most talked about designer. Most of our favorite celebrities are seen wearing his clothes as well as the first lady, Michelle Obama. It was great to get to know Michael Kors on Project Runway. They way he thinks, knowledge as well as the advice is something that I won't forget. Sad to see that he left Project Runway but happy to see Zac Posen took his spot who also has well knowledge about fashion. Can't wait to see what he will do next!
