Designer of the week is the lovely Reem Acra. Acra is known for her dreamy bridal gown line as well as expanding to a ready-to-wear collection. Her bridal gowns made the scene in 1999 with her attention to detail, distinctive tailoring, and new modern concepts. Her designs have frequently been seen on the red carpet around the world. Growing up, at times there was a live-in seamstress that would tailor dresses for Acra and her mother. This grabbed her interest and while shopping with her mother, this officially sparked her fascination with fashion, fabric, beading and intricate embroidery after buying a vintage dress. Joining the American University in Beirut, she held a fashion show in June 1982 that attracted 2,000 people. However, she didn't go to the university for a fashion degree. Instead, she got her business degree. It's when she went to the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, that got her the fashion degree. In 1997 she started her own company. When growing up, she would go hiking with her father and brothers in the mountains. This experience stayed with her and inspired her for her 2011 ready-to-wear collection. You can find her designs in over 150 retailers.
