Amsale Aberra

Designer of the week is the fabulous Amsale Aberra. Known for her couture wedding gowns, you can find her gowns in Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus as well as her flagship store and boutique. Being a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and a Trustee of the Fashion Institute of Technology, Aberra continues to make her stamp on the world of fashion with her gowns. Professionally known as Amsale, she was forced to stay in the United States to support herself through her undergraduate years. Struggling financially, she decided to start making her own clothing. Before to long, she enrolled in the New York's Fashion Institute of Technology. Upon completion, she went to work as a design assistant for Harve Benard. Two years later, she decided to create her own bridal gown company with stunning, simple gowns for the modern woman. In 1985, she was planning her own wedding, however, when looking around for a simple, clean, sophisticated refined wedding dress. She discovered and untapped niche in the bridal market. So she places an advertisement for custom made gowns and this is what started her own business working out of her New York City loft apartment. Aberra's main goal was to find the perfect gown for any bride. However, she wanted to expand her line. Aberra has her regular Amsale line, Amsale Blue, The Little White Dress, bridesmaid and cocktail dresses.
