Designer of the week is out of the box designer Alber Elbaz. When he moved to New York in 1985, he worked for George F Couture. After two years he switched jobs and worked for Geoffrey Beene. Beene's masterful drapery, fit and rejection of trends sparked Elbaz's interest. He than worked for Beene for seven years learning what all he could. By 1997, Elbaz moved on to the firm Guy Laroche. During this time, Laroche had become conservative so Elbaz jumped in and somewhat enhanced the firms image as well as updating their collection. However, he only staid with the firm for one year. He decided to start creating Ready-to-Wear women's clothing for Yves Saint Laurent. Elbaz's talents was recognized. He then was groomed to become the head designer of the house once Saint Laurent retired. Although, this wasn't in the cards for Elbaz. Gucci purchased YSL Rive Gauche and after three collection, Tom Ford let Elbaz go.
By 2001, he was appointed artistic director of Lanvin in Paris. He has received awards for his hard work and published a book in 2012 of 3,000 photographs documenting the work of Lanvin. The great part about Elbaz is that even though he moved around a lot. He has received so much experience and in networking.
