Oscar De La Renta

Designer of the week is the fabulous Oscar Aristides Renta Fiallo, also known as Oscar De La Renta. The most renowned clothing designers in the world and in the 1960's known as the internationally award winning designer. Best known for dressing the most leading figures from royalty to film stars. At the age of 19, he drew clothes for newspapers and fashion houses for extra money. After designing a dress for Francesca Lodges daughter, he became interested in the world of fashion design. In 1963, he turned to Diana Vreeland, editor-in-chief of Vogue for advice which lead him to Arden and then to Jane Derby. When Derby passed away, De La Renta took over the label. He then became the first Dominican to design for French Couture house. In 2006, he dove into bridal wear and his ready-to-wear designs are available in his retail stores, online, and with worldwide wholesale partners. Over the years, De La Renta has also launched a fragrance, accessories and a homewares line. Sadly Oscar De La Renta passed away October 20, 2014.
