Stephen Burrows

Designer of the week is Stephen Burrows. Born in New Jersey, Burrows was always fascinated with his grandmother's zigzag sewing machine. He learned how to sew and created his first garment for a friends doll when he was eight years old. While in High School, Burrows took dance lessons. These dance lessons lead to him going to Manhattan to dance at the Palladium night club on Sundays. This sparked his creativity to sketch dresses he wanted for his partners. This would also start his path of bringing fashion to dance.

Burrows studied at Fashion Institute of Technology and began working in the New York City's Garment Center alternating between managing his own business and working closely with luxury department store Henri Bendel. Burrows is well known for his garments being bright colors and having a lettuce hem curly edges. The bright colors became an integral part of New York City disco dancing scene of the 1970s. After graduating from Newark Arts High School, Burrows enrolled at Philadelphia Museum College of Art to become an art teacher.

Being inspired once again by dress forms, Burrows ended up transferring to New York City's Fashion Institute of Technology where he met his future muse Betty Davis. You can say Burrows got antsy. He has no patience with the basic draping rules that FIT professors were teaching. After graduating, Burrows began his career at a blouse manufacturer. His work was starting to be picked up by small shops. Burrows clothes were described as the fashion embodiment of the electric sexuality of this era. The get togethers that Burrows would do would become dance parties. Burrows would dress everyone. Create something in the moment.

Loved by many, his designs continue to inspire others and be talked about through each generation. The list can go on on how many awards he was won throughout the years. He has made his marked on the industry.

Fab Five Looks For The Week

Comfort is the goal this week. This is especially for those who want to still look cute but don't want to get 100% dolled up. We all have those days. We know we have to leave the house and you just don't know who you are going to run into. So we dress in comfort but we do it in a stylish way. Here are different ways of comfort that will start your week off on a good note. We do tend to live in our workout clothes but ladies let's switch it up with something different this week when it comes to comfort.

Top Hairstyles

Love how braids just elevate a persons overall look. Pair this with a suit and you have a woman on mission. Like Brad, I'm also in love with a good blonde color. Platinum has become my next obsession since it can bring out the warmth in anyone's skin tone. We all know toner plays a role in complimenting the skin tone. Pair with a dark root and it's perfect but look how clean these braids are! They have very little frizz and honestly looks like someone helped each person accomplish the look. Which can't be mad at it because all of them look great. If you can get the help, definitely do so but go for a braid this week! Doesn't matter what the length of your hair is, just start braiding. Experiment with design and have fun creating your own unique look. Who knows, maybe you can be the next trendsetter with a different braid style. Make it fun and upload a photo for everyone to see!

Consuelo Castiglioni

Designer of the week is Consuelo Castiglioni. Born and raised in Italian Swiss town Lugano, Switzerland. With no training or education in design, she started the fashion label Marni in 1994 with her business partner and husband Gianni Castiglioni. As the founder and former creative director of Italian Fashion label Marni, Castiglioni was praised for her forward thinking designs and sophistication. With her love for Art, you can see many traits of her in each collection.

The fashion industry marked Castiglioni as the most innovative designer. Castiglioni was also on the 100 Most Creative People In Business by Fast Company. Her sleek silhouettes, colorful prints and bold textures have her standing out from the rest. With the rising popularity, the brand has expanded rapidly. The side business called Ciwifurs was also created which is best known for being a fur business. This company was established in 1999. This allowed the designer to develop a more fashion forward aesthetic.

Marni began to expand rapidly by targeting her niche market. This brand was created for that  independence woman. She dresses for herself, not to please others. Which many speculate that this is why not a lot of advertising was done for the brand. You also don't see Castiglioni chasing celebrities like you see many brands doing. By 2016, Castiglioni departed from Marni. This marked the end of the exciting chapter for the brand. Castiglioni wanted divert more time into her private life. Castiglioni daughter, who is also part of the brand as a lead for special projects has also started her own collection called Plan C.

Castiglioni has changed the fashion industry and inspired many. Even though Marni is under someone new, you can still see a little of Castiglioni within the brand. While Castiglioni is taking this time off, the industry awaits for her return. What new will she bring to the table? Will she take her company back or build a completely new brand? What innovation will she create to remind the industry why everyone loved her so much? With so many questions, we hope she won't be done sharing her creativity.
